Provincial government acts on recommendation from Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce policy
The Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce was pleased to see the changes made to the existing Canada-Alberta Job Grant, effective February 18th that allow both business owners and family members employed in the business to qualify for this program.
The recommendation to ‘change the eligibility requirements to allow family members who are meaningfully employed in the business to access funding’ was included in the policy that our chamber put forward at the at the 81st annual Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) provincial conference and policy session which took place in Camrose, in May of 2019. It was subsequently adopted by the network. (READ THE POLICY)
These changes will be in place until February 28th, 2022. While they are currently designed to be temporary, we are hopeful that positive usage of the program over the next year will allow us to advocate a permanent change.
Local businesses who are now able to qualify because are encouraged to contact the chamber to share feedback of their experiences in order to assist us in our advocacy of the program moving forward.
A complete list of the temporary changes and more information can be found on the Government of Alberta website. https://www.alberta.ca/canada-alberta-job-grant.aspx
