Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce receives federal shop local funds

LACOMBE (July 8, 2021) – The Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce will receive $46,250 of federal shop local funding—funding that will expand the chamber’s ongoing efforts to encourage patronage of community businesses.

“This funding will multiply the impact of our efforts tenfold,” says Monica Bartman, Executive Director of the Lacombe & District Chamber. “As a non-profit, our annual budget is limited. While we may have been able to carve out some resources, this grant has expanded our capacity and will significantly benefit our local businesses. We are grateful to the federal government for making these funds available and for tasking chambers across the country with leading the initiative.”

The grant will fund a marketing campaign and business supports, including a province-wide online marketplace and training to equip businesses as they build their digital presence.

Promotional videos will make up one element of the marketing campaign. The chamber is inviting local businesses to participate in the project, with filming taking place from July 19 to 30. Interested businesses can contact the chamber prior to July 16 to confirm their involvement.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, community chambers have truly been a lifeline for businesses,” says Ken Kobly, Alberta Chambers of Commerce President and CEO. “As we transition to reopening and recovery, we still have a long road ahead to rebuild our economy. This federal funding will help chambers do what we do best: support local job creators.”

A third round of funding applications is currently being processed.
